Even if pros disagree on the current FedEx Cup playoff format, you can be certain no one in this week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship field is questioning the opportunity to earn a boatload of cash. Major championships, they are not. But there’s no doubt the three playoff events are still in a special tier on the Tour schedule.

Special events call for special gear, which is exactly what Collin Morikawa plans to employ at TPC Southwind. Instead of trotting out a standard TaylorMade staff bag, Morikawa is opting for a one-of-a-kind creation that was a collaboration between TaylorMade, FedEx and the PGA Tour.

Working with Ceeze Creative Studio, the bag was created using repurposed soon-to-be-recycled FedEx packaging and other upcycled materials, including TaylorMade golf gloves on the side panels.

The TaylorMade logo and other custom designs utilize FedEx’s core brand colors (purple, orange and white), while the bag strap includes the playoffs logo and airport codes (MEM, DEN, ATL) for the three FedEx Cup host markets. Lining the bag’s interior is a pattern design with the FedEx Cup trophy.

Morikawa debuted the bag on Wednesday and plans to use it during all three events.

“Really special bag,” Morikawa said. “Really cool. I think FedEx kind of did a little collab with TaylorMade, one of my sponsors, and created this bag specially for the playoffs, and it’s very meaningful, not only how it’s built — you have recycled gloves on the side, recycled materials. Someone said there’s a part of a FedEx truck in it.

“I think what this represents is just an accumulation of the entire season. I think what’s so special about this bag and the next three weeks I’m going to be using it is that FedEx is going to be donating a thousand dollars per birdie I make for the playoffs, and that’s very, very special. I think it ties in, they’re going to be donating to St. Jude, obviously the St. Jude Championship this week. Just a lot of special ties going in.”

FedEx plans to donate $1,000 to St. Jude for every birdie or better Morikawa makes throughout the 2024 FedEx Cup playoffs while using the bag. Morikawa’s wife, Katherine, is running the upcoming New York City Marathon with St. Jude as her charitable beneficiary as well.

Morikawa enters the FedEx Cup playoffs ranked No. 4 in the current standings.
